AN OLD WOMAN RUNNING A SMALL BUSINESS

Dili, January 6, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Regina de Jesus, 63, has four children consisting of two boys and two girls, from Bobonaro and now lives in Comoro, Dili. Her daily activities are making a small business on the side of the road to meet the daily needs of her family.

She admitted that her husband had left her for more than ten years, so she decided to start a small business selling vegetables on the side of the road to meet her daily needs. Because if she just stayed at home, she would not get anything.

“The vegetables that I buy every day are cassava leaves, spinach, papaya and others, if someone brings them from Liquiça I always buy them for $ 17,00, so I tie one bundle again for 0.50 cents so that people can buy them because in Kampu-baru there are also many who sell vegetables that sell well but it depends on each person’s fortune.” She said.

She continued, the money that she had been using to run the small business was the result of her own money that she obtained from her pension, so she decided to start a small business by selling vegetables on the side of the road to increase her income to meet her living needs.

“Even though the income is small, like every day I always get $ 3.00-$ 4.00, it still depends on the buyers because there are also many who sell on the side of the road, so I keep trying to sell because life depends on this business to meet my needs.” she added.

She admitted that every day she always gets a mediocre turnover, but seeing the conditions when Dili Municipal Guard came to check, her merchandise did not sell for up to $4.00, but she still tried to face the challenge.

To explain better, even though her husband has long left her, she continues to try to earn an income through small businesses such as selling vegetables on the roadside to meet her daily needs.
