Dili, January 14, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Laurentina de Carvalho, 27 years old from Baucau, now lives in Comoro, Dili. Her daily activities are running a small business selling Boba on the roadside to meet her needs.
According to Laurentina de Carvalho, through the activity of selling boba on the side of the road because she wants to earn income to meet her needs, so as not to depend on other people, she has to try it herself by running a business.
“I decided to start my own business because I wanted to change my life, through this simple business I can buy the things I need every day, including I can send money to my parents in the city to help my younger siblings to continue their education. When we just sit at home who will help my family, so everyone has to work hard to earn a living in various ways, in order to get money to meet daily needs.” She said
She continued that the money she used to run this business was her own money of 50 USD to buy the items she needed to make boba such as milk, pop ice and others. Even with decent income, she remains confident to move forward.
“I started this small business last year in April with a capital of 50 USD I bought the ingredients I needed to make boba. So, at that time I decided to sell it near the highway so that it would be easily recognized by people and also close to the 30 de Agusto school, many students like to buy it and I sell it at a normal price of 0.50 cents and $ 1.00, so in a day I always get $ 20.00 and above. ” She added
She added that the boba she sells is at a normal price of 0.50 cents and $1.00 so that every day she always gets a price of $20.00 and above and sometimes it doesn’t reach it because it depends on the situation like now it rains so doesn’t sell, so sometimes in a day she only gets $10.00.
To further explain that as a prospective woman, she has her own creativity to open a small business on the side of the road, so that she can earn money to meet her daily needs and also to finance her younger siblings’ education, even though she always faces various challenges, she still tries to achieve her dreams now and will be better in the future.
