Dili, 16 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – Interior Ministry and Timor-Leste National Police Command start discussing the promotion trajectory for police members who are at the level senior official positions, the discussion activity was held last Friday.
Interior Minister Francisco Guterres said, the meeting is between the command and the Interior Ministry to discuss the promotion trajectory for senior officials.
“First we talked about the security issues in the country, second is about promotions for the officers, so today the discussion is ongoing and they are also giving their opinions,then after that we’ll consult with them to hear their opinions, so they know we are formulating it well. When it’s all done, next week we’ll announce the promotions to them.” Said Interior Minister Francisco Guterres to journalists after a meeting with PNTL Senior Officer, held at the Comoro Police Training Center, Thursday (12/03/2026)
PNTL officials expressed their opinions that promotions should consider work seniority, veterans, positions and current assignments, including officers who are about disciplinary offence, so the Interior Ministry has a deadline to resolve their issues.
Promotions for the officers will be done next week PNTL’s anniversaryy on March 27th. Those who will be promoted are 63 people in the promotion trajectory.
Interior Minister explained, for senior officers who will get promotions, they must meet the criteria of 16 years of services to PNTL, and the promotion for these officers will be carried out at PNTL General Command.
The Governor underlined, that the promotion shows the assignment of assistant Superintendent to Superintendent, Superintendent to Chief Superintendent, and Chief Superintendent to Assistant Commissioner.
Meanwhile, the discussion was chaired by Interior Minister Francisco da Costa Guterres, accompanied by PNTL Second-in Command Commissioner Pedro Belo, and attended by PNTL National Operations Commander Chief Superintendent Afonso dos Santos, Municipal Commanders, Unit Commanders, including Directors of Departments and Heads of Departments.
