Dili, 31 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – PNTL Commander General, Assistant Police Commissioner Afonso dos Santos stated PNTL is prepared to ensure security for Holy Week masses during the Easter period. “We’ve received instructions from Command to work together with the military, so we guarantee there won’t be any problems.”
Meanwhile, Dili Municipality Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Orlando Gomes says the Municipality Command has received instructions from the General Commander to increase security from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday.
”Dili Municipality Command has prepared an operational plan for Easter security. We will deploy our members to churches in Dili capital and provide security for the processions. This is to ensure the events go smoothly.” says Dili Municipality Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Orlando Gomes.
Orlando Gomes adds that the churches in Dili capital, especially the Parishes, will have PNTL members deployed as per the operational plan. We’ll have Transit members organizing traffic to avoid congestion.
”We’ll deploy transit members to organize traffic, avoid congestion, and ensure all vehicles can move smoothly. The plan is ready, and our members will be briefed before heading out to the field.” says Dili Municipality Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner
He affirms that the Easter operational plan also has support from Special Police Units, Maritime Unit, and community policing partners.
”We’ve instructed the squads to coordinate with KPK Presidents and members to provide security support during Easter.” said Dili Municipality Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner.
Dili Municipality PNTL Commander appeals to parishioners, youth, and communities in Dili Municipality to prepare themselve for Easter. We need your collaboration and contribution to ensure security during Holy Week goes smoothly. Especially, we ask youth who ride motorbikes at night or hang out in groups to take a break, so we can get through the ceremonies safely.
He also asks all citizens to look out for each other and contribute to stability in Dili capital.
“Our capital Dili isn’t just for the police, but we ask the people, communities, and youth to work together with the Municipality Command, through our squads and Police Suku officers, so we all contribute to Dili’s security.” says Dili Municipality Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Orlando Gomes.
Before Holy Week, Dili Municipality Command has instructed squads and sections to conduct vehicle patrols and foot patrols in neighborhoods to prevent conflicts.
“Sometimes conflicts happen in neighborhoods, so we’ve launched our intelligence and Police Suku officers are talking to communities to address issues.” emphasizes Dili Municipality Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Orlando Gomes.
Besides that, Special Unit Commander, Chief Superintendent Police Damiao Correia says Easter security is routine, and the Special Unit is always ready to support Dili Municipality Command to ensure stability, especially during Easter, across the territory, not just in Dili capital.
Companies are deployed: Bravo Company covers the eastern part, Delta Company covers the western part, and REOA is permanently stationed there. They’re ready to guarantee security and stability during Easter.
