Dili, March 11, 2025 (Média Democracia) – ALMAMOR through the organizing committee will hold a national music competition “Kore-Metan” for qualified bands from the regions in May this year.
Organizing Committee Chairman of Likurau Timor, Sergio “Aseu” de Deus said that the purpose of this press conference was to convey information from the organizing committee that prepares all the “Kore-Metan” bands in the municipality.
“So far they have only heard the information, but they are waiting for when this event can start, through this moment I want to pass on to those involved as the ‘Kore-Metan’ band in the municipalities to start preparing themselves, because the series of events will reach the municipalities and this activity will also reach the municipalities.” Said the Head of the Likurau Timor Committee
He said, based on the plan, the activity will take place in May, before May 20 it will be realized in the second week.
In addition, the committee also created a concept of criteria such as wearing traditional clothing (original tais) from each region and the music performed was music that had been prepared by the committee, the selected music would be handed over to each regional group to be developed in their respective mother tongues.
“Therefore, the municipality must prepare the audition process, the committee team will go to the municipality to organize them hold a small competition at there, then bring the results of the audition to the committee to see who is the best who will represent the municipality to take part in the competition in Dili,” he said.
He said that the committee was still disbursing funds, but sometimes the plan was not sufficient, so the committee also had other plans to be able to organize this activity.
“Now we are coming in with 60 million USD, that is because it consists of placing teams in Dili to the municipality, then the groups come back from the municipality to Dili, and are concentrated or stay in one place, and also the award comes with a package not only tax but with the provision of money for all the groups.” He told
Meanwhile, the amount of coaching money for the winners has not been determined, because the authority to determine it is ALMAMOR, the committee only makes plans, as well as the criteria for participants who are allowed to take part in this competition are those aged 18-45 years.
He said that every year they hold a competition, but we do not dig too deep because the kore-metan group is not just one or two groups and the committee wants to select at the municipal level and then bring it to the national level, the committee will also make rules/regulations so that one person from each group must remain/permanent, because they are the ones who will represent the municipality.
On that occasion, ALMAMOR’s Second Vice President, Jovi Baptista added that ALMAMOR’s annual plan this year is about the kore-metan band competition.
“With the aim of preserving and maintaining the sustainability of Timor-Leste music, first of all ALMAMOR would like to express our gratitude and 100% support to the organizing committee of the Tetum language music, Liku-rai Timor who have fought hard and ALMAMOR then gave their trust to this committee to organize the program provided by ALMAMOR.” He said.
He added that ALMAMOR currently does not have the funds, but the plans submitted will still be included in ALMAMOR’s annual plan.
“From ALMAMOR, we just want to convey that in all of ALMAMOR’s plans, we will seek funds, of course by approaching the government, here, we just want to convey that, the MJDAC government institution, that’s why in the short term we will take this program, we will group it in ALMAMOR’s annual action plan, then we will bring it for an approach, so that this program can run.” He continued.
He emphasized that regarding ALMAMOR technicians, trust 100% to the organizing committee who will plan and organize this event, because ALMAMOR is the one who gives trust to the organizing committee.
