Dili, September 11, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste, held a workshop on disaster management in response to recent disasters in the country. The three-day workshop took place at the Palm Springs Hilton.
Secretary of State for Civil Protection Authority, Domingos Mariano Reis, stated that the workshop was facilitated by the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management (CFE-DM) with support from the Rhode Island National Guard (RING).
“This workshop focuses on Civil-Military Cooperation Programs for Disaster Management in Timor-Leste, to improve disaster response not only in Timor-Leste but also in other countries. Over the next three days, we aim to enhance leadership knowledge and resource mobilization to provide a more effective response to victims of natural disasters in Timor-Leste,” said Secretary of State for Civil Protection Authority, Domingos Mariano Reis.
He further explained that the program was designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of leadership in disaster management, focusing on mobilization and communication between partners and institutions to ensure effective emergency responses to natural disasters in Timor-Leste.
Meanwhile, U.S. Embassy Representative in Timor-Leste, Sergio Villarreal, emphasized the importance of the collaboration.
“This workshop allows us to study together and exchange ideas on identifying the most important and appropriate measures for disaster management so that we can better respond to the natural disasters that occur every year in Timor-Leste,” said Sergio Villarreal.
The U.S. Embassy expressed their appreciation to the Civil Protection Authority for their commitment to strengthening cooperation in disaster management efforts in Timor-Leste.
The APC and U.S. Embassy confirmed that the three-day workshop aims to provide disaster management training for participants to better respond to future natural disasters in the country.
