APC Registers 10 People Affected by Natural Disasters in One Week

Dili, October 28, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), through the Office of External Relations and Communications (GREK), updated information on natural disasters that occurred in Timor-Leste in a press conference held at the APC Hall in Caicoli.

Head of the Office of External Relations and Communications, Nelson Nunes Orleans, stated that from 20–27 October 2025, during this week natural disasters of a normal scale occurred in Timor-Leste.

“CNOPC together with APC registered disaster cases including: damaged houses (2), fires that burned community homes (2), houses that met the pre-criteria (1), and one emergency shelter case (1), with a total of 10 people affected by natural disasters. Of these, 5 people were evacuated. The disasters occurred in two municipalities: Aileu and Covalima,” said Nelson Nunes Orleans.

He continued that the disaster in Aileu Municipality, Venilale Administrative Post, Bandudato Village, Dailor Hamlet, occurred on 21 October 2025, involving a fire that partially burned a community house. Meanwhile, in Covalima Municipality, Fatumea Administrative Post, Nano Village, Macocon Hamlet, on 24 October 2025 a fire completely burned down a community home, and the victim was evacuated to a family member’s house.

During the disaster events, the APC Command in Aileu and Covalima carried out assessments, verifications, and provided emergency support.

Furthermore, the APC Municipal Command with relevant partners promptly delivered emergency assistance to the affected families, including food and non-food items. The Operational Command of the Civil Protection Authority (APC) deployed in these municipalities continues to conduct detailed assessments of damaged and lost assets caused by the disasters.
