Dili, August 12. 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), through its Head of Communication Section (XSK), held a press conference reporting on natural disasters that occurred between 4 and 11 August in a one-week period. During that time, Civil Protection recorded a total of 8 houses damaged by natural disasters in 4 municipalities. The press conference was held at the APC Hall in Caicoli, Dili.
The Head of the Communication Section (XSK) of APC, Genoveva Fernandes Almeida, said that during this one-week period, natural disasters occurred in 4 municipalities. APC recorded 8 houses damaged, classified into 5 categories of severe damage, and provided 3 cases of emergency assistance. In total, 46 people were affected, and APC in the respective municipalities immediately provided emergency items to the victims of these disasters.
“During this week, the Civil Protection Authority recorded natural disaster incidents in four municipalities such as, in Baucau Municipality, strong winds damaged 2 houses; in Lautem Municipality, fire destroyed 3 houses; in Manufahi Municipality, strong winds damaged 1 house; and in the Special Administrative Region of Oe-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA), strong winds damaged 1 house and fire destroyed 1 house. Therefore, APC teams deployed in each municipality immediately registered the victims affected by the disasters,” said Genoveva Fernandes Almeida.
She explained that in Baucau Municipality, in Quilicai Administrative Post, Builale Village, Oso-mosa Hamlet, on 1 August 2025, strong winds damaged a house, classified as partially damaged. In Venilale Administrative Post, Fatulia Village, Uai-to-Bono Hamlet, on 2 August 2025, strong winds damaged another house, also classified as partially damaged.
“In Lautem Municipality, Lautem Administrative Post, Com Village, Lohomatu Hamlet, on 4 August 2025, a fire destroyed three houses, and only emergency assistance was provided because the damage category was ‘kitchen houses’ (cooking structures). In Manufahi Municipality, Same Administrative Post, Betano Village, Loro Hamlet, on 4 August 2025, strong winds damaged a house, classified as totally destroyed,” said the Head of Communication Section (XSK) of APC.
The Head of the Section further informed that in the Special Administrative Region of Oe-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA), in the Pante Makasar sub-region, Taiboko Village, Makelab Hamlet, on 6 August 2025, a fire destroyed a house, and only emergency assistance was provided. In addition, in Nenum Hamlet on 5 August 2025, strong winds damaged another house, with emergency assistance provided to facilitate support for the victims.
She further explained that the APC command, together with relevant partners deployed in each municipality, provided food and non-food assistance to the victims. In addition, the operational command of the Civil Protection Authority in all municipalities will continue collecting data on households that suffered total and partial damage in order to process support from the government.
