APC Registers 49 People Affected by Natural Disasters Within a Week

Dili, November 12, 2025 (Média Democracia) The Civil Protection Authority (APC) updated information for the week of October 27 to November 3, 2025, reporting that a total of 8 households were affected by natural disasters that occurred across 4 municipalities. The press conference took place at the APC Hall in Caicoli, Dili, on Tuesday.

The Chief of the Communication Section (XSK), Genoveva Fernandes Almeida, stated that during the recent natural disasters in those municipalities, APC recorded 8 damaged houses, 2 of which qualified for emergency assistance, while 6 met the criteria for affected households. The respective APC municipal offices promptly provided emergency support to the victims.

“Within the week, in four municipalities such as, Lautem, Manatuto, Manufahi, and Viqueque, the Civil Protection Authority registered a total of 6 affected households, providing emergency support to 2 households. In total, 49 people were affected, 10 were evacuated, and 1 person lost their life,” said Genoveva Fernandes Almeida.

She further explained that across the four municipalities, APC registered 8 houses damage, 4 due to strong winds and 4 due to fire incidents which resulting in one fatality. The damages occurred between late October and early November.

“In Lautem Municipality, Lospalos Post, Fuiloru Village, 30 de Agostu Hamlet, on October 29, a house was damaged by strong winds; it did not qualify for full assistance since it was only the kitchen area affected, so it received only emergency aid. In Manatuto Municipality, Laclo Post, Uma Naruk Village, Bua Hamlet, on October 21, a house was burned; it also did not qualify for full assistance as only the kitchen was affected and received emergency support. In Hoho Rai Village, Hatuanahu Hamlet, on October 21, one house was damaged by strong winds and classified as moderately damaged. In Soibada Post, Fatumakerek Village, Lesuata Hamlet, on November 2, a house was completely burned down, and one person died. In Orlalan Village, Orlalan Hamlet, on November 3, another fire destroyed a house completely,” explained the Communications Section Chief.

She continued, explaining that in Manufahi Municipality, Daisua Village, Lesulau Hamlet, on October 18, one house was moderately damaged by strong winds.

Meanwhile, in Viqueque Municipality, Makadiki Village, Matadalan Hamlet, on October 25, a house was destroyed by fire in Watu-Lari Post. In Builo Village, Derulo Hamlet, on October 20, another house was moderately damaged by strong winds.

Furthermore, she stated that APC Commands in the affected municipalities, together with relevant partners, have provided emergency assistance to the affected families, including food and non-food items. The Operational Command of the Civil Protection Authority (APC) in each municipality will continue to carry out detailed assessments regarding damaged and lost property.
