Dili, June 9, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), through its External Relations and Communications Office, released its weekly report on natural disasters that occurred across Timor-Leste. The press conference was held at the APC meeting hall in Caicoli, Dili.

Head of the External Relations and Communications Office (GREK), Nelson Nunes Orleans, reported that from June 2 to June 9, six households were affected by natural disasters across four municipalities.

“During these events, APC registered five households that met the criteria for emergency assistance, and one that partially met the criteria. In total, six people were affected, with one fatality. APC provided immediate emergency support to three victims and evacuated two others. The affected municipalities included Baucau (one death due to drowning), Bobonaro (one house damaged by strong winds), RAEOA (one house damaged by strong winds), and Viqueque (one house also damaged by strong winds),” said Nelson Nunes Orleans.

He stated that APC teams deployed in the municipalities carried out immediate verification of the data and provided emergency aid packages prepared for each municipality.

“Detailing the incidents: in Baucau, a 52-year-old woman named Elsa Fernandes from Kasmutu, Baucau Vila Administrative Post, drowned and could not be rescued. In Bobonaro, in the Leolima village of Balibo Administrative Post, strong winds damaged a house, and victims were evacuated to a safe shelter. In RAEOA, Makasar region, Kuña village, strong winds also destroyed a house and victims were similarly evacuated. In Viqueque, Umauain Kraik village of Viqueque Vila Administrative Post, another home was damaged by wind,” explained the GREK Chief.

He emphasized that during these incidents, APC quickly collected and verified the data to ensure timely emergency support and evacuations. Affected individuals are now temporarily housed in unaffected community areas. Once data verification is complete, APC will provide both material and non-material support to each victim in the affected municipalities.
