Celebration of the 17th Anniversary of the Department of Social Communication (DCS)

Dili, November 26, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Department of Social Communication (DCS) of the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL) celebrated its 17th anniversary, bringing together lecturers, students, and the university community to reflect on their hard work and collective efforts that continue to move the department forward.

According to the Director of the Department of Social Communication (DCS), Roberto da Costa Pacheco, he appealed to lecturers and students to work together in advancing the department.

“On this occasion, as we celebrate the 17th anniversary, we hope that the Department of Social Communication continues to demonstrate maturity through our collective work and collaboration, between lecturers, among lecturers and the university, and with all students. This allows us to move forward as an academic institution. Even though we are still young, only 17 years old, within the Faculty of Social Sciences we are the department accredited with a good rating (B) by ANAA. We hope that in the years ahead, through strong collaboration, we will continue progressing,” stated Director Roberto da Costa at the Caicoli Campus.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Dean III of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FCS) UNTL, Valente Gusmão Laranjeira, emphasized that the 17th anniversary celebration provides positive motivation for students.

“On behalf of the Faculty of Social Sciences, we extend congratulations to the Department of Social Communication and its leadership. The 17 years of existence is not a short journey; it serves as an inspiration. This anniversary strengthens the spirit of our students, helping them reflect on their thoughts, vision, and what they aim to achieve in the future,” said Vice-Dean III Valente Gusmão at FCS Caicoli.

He further added that this celebration is also a moment to collectively think and reflect, especially in connection with the 25 years of Timor-Leste’s independence, as it encourages deeper reflection and serves as material that shapes the future.
