Dili, 16 February 2026 (Média Democracia) – The Core Group Transferencia Timor-Leste is working together with development patners in Timor-Leste to create a two-day training activity on Child Safeguarding Policies. The training is being held at the HAK foundation hall farol Dili.
Core Group Transferencia Timor-Leste Coordinator Jimicarter Moniz dos Reis said today’s activity will discuss child safeguarding policies in Timor-Leste, looking at underage children selling goods on the streets.
“We all know the child safeguarding policy is very important for organizations, especially civil society, on how the can implement it in their organizations, so they can implement activities in all municipalities and provide training to communities on how to prioritize children’s rights, because children are very inportant tor this nation and are the new generation for the future.” Said Core Group Transferencia Timor-Leste Coordinator Jimicarter Moniz dos Reis
The Core Group Coordinator added, that’s why it’s necessary to prioritize children, talking about children’s rights, because the Contitutions of the Democratic Repuplic of Timor-Leste States that children need protection from their family, the State, and their own parents.
“I think through this training, there’s information on child safety. So this training is a very important factor for civil society members, especially the Core Group Tranferencia Timor-Leste, to use the materials they received today to share in the municipalities, to ensure children at the base level.” Added the Core Group Transferencia Timor-Leste Coordinator
The Coordinator informed that trhough this training, members’ knowledge and capacity on how to use the child safeguarding policy manual has been enhanced, therefore the training is very important for civil society, both the Government to use as a standard to guide and follow the established format.
“We see the child rights convention there are three principles, 1. No discrimination against children, 2. Children should participate in all activities, and 3. children need to live with a true identity, because we see it’s very important for the State and the Country.” Informed the Core Group Tranferencia Timor-Leste Coordinator.
The Coordinator states that in this training, there are important topics such as the definition of a child, child safeguarding policy, and risk mitigation for children at the base level.
Further explained the activity today was carried out by Core Group Tranferencia Timor-Leste with 16 members, and also involved local organizations such as Raies Hadomi Timor Oan (RHTO) and Radiu Komunidade Difisiensia Timor-Leste (RKDTL). In addition the training will be held for two days, the first day on child safeguarding, and the second day on child safeguarding policy in Timor-Leste.
