Dili, November 5, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC) through the Office of Foreign Relations and Communication (GREK) team delivered weekly data on natural disasters in Timor-Leste, for one week, the conference was held at the APC hall, Caicoli, Dili, Timor-Leste, on Monday.
According to the Director of GREK, Cesario da Silva Marques informed, APC recorded 38 cases of natural disasters during the week due to climate change of various types.
“During one week, in Timor Leste there were various natural disasters, so that APC recorded cases of damaged houses with a total of 19, houses damaged by wind with a total of 15 houses, houses burned with a total of 5 houses, people affected by natural disasters with a total of 14, those who met the criteria with a total of 18, emergency assistance for one person, the number of people evacuated was 13. These cases were recorded by APC because they were caused by climate change in our country.” Said GREK Director, Cesario da Silva Marques
He continued, the disaster that occurred in areas such as Liquiça, the wind destroyed a total of 13 houses, in Viqueque 2 houses, in Lautem 1 house, in Covalima 3 houses burned, the number of people affected in Covalima was 13 people, in Lautem 2 people, in Liquiça 3 people, in Viqueuqe 56 people, the incident lasted for one week in municipality.
To be clearer, currently the APC Commander on duty in the municipality area together with related partners has provided emergency response assistance for families affected by natural disasters in the form of food and non-food items. Therefore, the APC Operational Commander of the Municipality continues to record data on damaged and lost items.
