Dili, August 4, 2025 (Média Democracia) – With strong support from the Presidency of the Republic and the Government, the Organizing Committee of the Dili International Marathon, led by Nelio Isaac Sarmento, Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, officially launched the Dili International Marathon 2025.
The Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MJDAK), Nelio Isaac Sarmento, announced that President José Ramos-Horta who act as the Patron of the event, underlining his commitment to national unity, public health, and international solidarity.
“All organizers are happy to announce that registration for the Dili International Marathon 2025 will officially open in August 2025. The highly anticipated event is scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025, with the starting and finishing lines set at the iconic Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace,” said Minister Sarmento.
The Minister emphasized that the Dili International Marathon continues to serve as a symbol of national unity, promoting health, fitness, and the vibrant spirit of Timor-Leste on the global stage. This year’s event carries the meaningful theme “Run for Palestine,” allowing participants to express solidarity and raise awareness for peace and justice.
“We are very excited to launch the registration next month for what promises to be our most impactful Dili International Marathon yet, particularly in terms of future health outcomes,” the Minister added.
He proudly announced the introduction of three prize categories this year: ASEAN, Timor-Leste, and Para-athletes for both men and women. These distinct categories highlight the commitment to recognizing athletic excellence from both Timor-Leste and the broader ASEAN region.
“We also encourage all aspiring runners from experienced marathoners to first-time participants to prepare and join us for this extraordinary event,” he said.
The Minister explained that the Dili International Marathon 2025 will offer various race types to accommodate all levels of participation such as, Full Marathon (42.195 km): A challenging course for elite and experienced runners. Half Marathon (21.0975 km): A popular race that offers a significant test of endurance. Para-Athletes Event: A dedicated category to ensure inclusivity and celebrate the achievements of athletes with disabilities. Fun Run: A shorter, non-competitive race perfect for families, friends, and community members to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Participants will have a unique opportunity to run along Dili’s scenic routes, experiencing its rich culture and beautiful coastline, while contributing to a cause that upholds humanitarian values. Further details on registration dates, prizes, race routes, and event-day logistics will be made available on the official Dili Marathon website and through the organizing committee’s social media channels.
