Dili, June 4, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The National Directorate of Civil Registry and Notary Services (DNSRN) has submitted a request to the Ministry of Justice to allocate a budget for the procurement of 70,005 passport booklets for the year 2026.
In an interview, Director General of Civil Registry and Notary Services, Agostinho Gonçalves Vieira, stated that DNSRN has already submitted the request to the Ministry of Justice (MJ) to proceed with the acquisition of new passport booklets for the upcoming year.
“The request for 2026 was made to the Ministry of Justice to allocate funds for 70,005 passport booklets, and the Minister of Justice has already accepted that we will proceed with the procurement,” said Agostinho Gonçalves Vieira at his office in Colmera, Tuesday (03/06/2025).
He further explained that the request from the Notary division includes a proposed budget of one million U.S. dollars, though the final decision rests with the Ministry of Justice. He remains hopeful that the requested budget will be approved. Currently, he affirmed, the existing stock of passport booklets is sufficient and is expected to last until December 2025.
“I don’t know the exact number of remaining passport booklets, but I can say that the current stock will meet demand through December of this year while we wait for the new supply,” he said.
The Director General assured that the government will approve the procurement request as it has been included in the draft of the 2026 State General Budget.
