Dili, October 18, 2024 (Média Democracia) – Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e through the Department of Social Communication launched a documentary film titled, “The Art of Teaching” produced by producers Mr. Agio Oliveira and Mr. José Fonseca.
The Chancellor of the National University of Timor Lorosa’e, Mr. João Soares Martins said that the film “The Art of Teaching” is very beautiful and can be a motivation for lecturers and students to get to know the art of teaching better because in the classroom there are various characters of students.
“It is an honor and pride for us to be able to launch this film with the title, “The Art of Teaching” just want to convey that this film is very beautiful to provide an overview to lecturers and also students who want to become teachers later, for lecturers and even teachers from elementary school to high school level must master the art of teaching,” said the UNTL Chancellor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Thursday.
He said that students have different characteristics, some are very smart, some are just so-so, therefore this film teaches how to use art to enliven the environment.
“Because entering the class, students have different backgrounds, some are very smart, some are enough, some are rude, some are passive. This shows how to create a class or environment that is conducive so that the teaching and learning process from lecturers to students can run smoothly, it takes art to enliven the class, participatory, this life needs skills, talents, art and also knowledge how we maintain and ensure that the message of knowledge that we convey from lecturers or teachers to students can be well received.” He said
On this occasion, the Chancellor also congratulated the film producers who have creative and innovative ideas to continue to produce inspiring films to increase scientific knowledge from the results of their work.
As a film producer, Mr. Agio Oliveira added that as an alumni of the Social Communication Department who studied at university, he went through all the processes that motivated him to produce this film.
“As a young Timorese who is also a student of the Social Communication Department who is heavily involved in the world of film, so when I was in college I also learned about Lecturer Marcelino or the resource person I interviewed because he really motivated me, another thing is the very big education problem in Timor Leste.” Said the producer, Mr. Agio
He continued, in Timor-Leste the community perspective is about services to students.
“As we know in Timor-Leste, if something happens, most people think it is the lecturer’s poor service to students, for example there is a lecturer who shouts at students and then does something else, so through this film we want to show that education is a very big problem in Timor-Leste which makes some students not want to go to college because the lecturer crosses out their monographs and the students do not know what to fix.” He said.
He hopes that in the future it can motivate students, including lecturers, to be better in treating students in a more real way.
As an alumna of the Social Communication Department, Isaura de Deus testified that through this film, it can motivate other lecturers to follow what Lecturer Marcelino did.
“I focus more on the character of Lecturer Marcelino, through this film it shows that he is a motivational lecturer who is able to motivate other lecturers, especially lecturers in Timor-Leste to follow what Lecturer Marcelino has done because he never gives up, is discouraged and tired of looking for his students who have not yet completed their studies at university at the final stage such as proposals or monographs.” She said.
She added that this film is very interesting for the public and lecturers, especially the public’s perspective on UNTL, which has always stated that UNTL takes a long time to graduate, but in reality it all depends on the enthusiasm of students to complete their studies.
In addition, this film focuses more on the enthusiastic character of lecturer Marcelino Magno who always tries to find final year students who are not active in preparing their proposals and monographs, therefore he tries to find students who can motivate him to complete his studies at the Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e.
