Dom Virgílio do Carmo da Silva : Easter Celebration Brings Joy and Peace to all People

Dili, 02 April 2026 (Média Democracia) – Celebration of Holy Easter Week, the Catholic Church sends a message to all Catholic faithful to celebrate Easter well and create love and peace for all people.

According to the Metropolitan Archbishop of Dili, Dom Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, Easter is the greatest feast in the Catholic Church, because it commemorates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Easter is the greatest feast in the Catholic Church, because we commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The word Easter comes from the Greek and Latin Pascha, originating from the Hebrew Pesach, meaning passage. It’s a very ancient celebration, remembering the liberation of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt. This passage refers to the angel passing over the houses of the Hebrews, seeing the mark of the lamb’s blood on the door, and not harming their firstborn sons. But for us Catholics today, it gets a new meaning with Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection.” Said the Metropolitan Archbishop of Dili, Dom Virgílio do Carmo da Silva

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Dili informs, today we celebrate Easter, because it continues to be a source of hope, a source of renewal in a world marching with violence, war, conflict, indifference, selfishness, hard faith, loss of faith, uncertainty, and Easter offers us a narrative of triumph, not desperation. Be a sign of hope for many remind us of transformation and starting a new page in life.

The Archbishop continued the Easter celebration in the rainy season, with abundant water making plants green and sprout, is a sign of life, inviting us to flourish and grow further. Especially starting new even if it often requires sacrifice and personal effort, Easter time, schools and institutions are on holiday during Holy Week, especially during the Easter Triduum. Holidays aren’t just to recover from work we couldn’t do all week, but like the Hebrews, families, and women in the cenacle, Easter holidays are a special invitation for families to gather together, as Family.

The Archbishop emphasized, this year’s Easter is an opportunity to renew our love for God and for our brothers and sisters. Pope Leo XIV, in his Lenten and Easter message to the Bishops of Timor, asks us to humble ourselves to hear God’s word and shorten our gossip and empty talk, so we can become instruments of hope, peace, and charity, completing our participation in the Easter Triduum. However beautiful, let’s fulfill our duty and obligation as Catholic Confessors – Via Sacra, masses during the Easter Triduum. Jesus’ resurrection marks the cornerstone of our faith, placed in our hearts.

Dear brothers and sisters, on this great day, let’s take time as a family to pray, reflecting on Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. Jesus on the cross is the greatest measure of God’s love. Let’s pray to God.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Dili, Dom Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, sends a message to all Catholic faithful to celebrate this year’s Easter filled with love and create peace and stability in the land. We are one, brothers, sisters, and Christians, let’s love one another, Wishing you all a Happy Easter.
