DILI, 06 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – The Ministry of Interior, through its spokesperson for Security Affairs, held a press conference to share information about the past two weeks, from February 16 to March 1, and the last 24 hours, in the Ministry of Interior’s conference room.
Ministry of Interior’s spokesperson for Security Affairs, Mouzinho T. Correia, stated that the national security situation is generally going well, although accidents happen but don’t disrupt public order.
“From February 16 to March 1, and in the last 24 hours, the national security situation is generally going well, even though some incidents and accidents happened, but they didn’t disrupt public order in the country. The situation is considered stable thanks to the efforts of security authorities and working together with communities, youth, students, and everyone living in Timor-Leste.” said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson also added that during the two-week period, the security situation in the country saw a total of 72 incidents and 76 crimes.
“During the two-week period, there were 72 incidents, including 26 domestic violence cases, 17 assaults, 10 thefts, 4 sexual assaults, and 3 contraband cases. In total, there were 76 crimes, including 26 simple integrity offenses, 9 conjugal mistreatment cases, 6 simple thefts, 5 aggravated thefts, and 3 contraband cases.” said Security Affairs spokesperson Mouzinho T. Correia.
He also informed that there were a total of 137 traffic accidents during the week.
“There were 137 traffic accidents, including 65 accidents involving motorcycles and cars, with zero fatalities, 9 serious injuries, and 73 minor injuries.” he stated.
He also concluded that most accidents happened in Dili municipality, followed by RAEOA, Lautem, and Viqueque. Meanwhile, municipalities that didn’t have any incidents in their jurisdiction during the two weeks were Aileu, Atauro, Bobonaro, Ermera, Manututo, and Manufahi. He appreciated the communities, especially young people and authorities in the municipalities, who complied and avoided violent acts.
