Dili, January 6, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Adelina Siga Soares, a 20-year-old girl, only graduated from high school because she did not have enough money to continue her studies. Therefore, she decided to sell other people’s vegetables so she could get money for her college fees.
According to Adelina, her daily activity is riding a motorbike to transport vegetables belonging to Marnir residents around the barracks in Dili so that residents can buy them.
“The vegetables that I deliver every day to the small baraka in Dili are sweet potato leaves, spinach and kale. Every day I always deliver $. 100.00,- but once I deliver it is only $. 20.00,- and in a day I deliver five times, I sell three bundles for 0.50 cents, then I go home and get paid $. 25.00,” She said.
She continued, the vegetables that she delivered to small barracks ranged from Marnir to Tais-tolu, Fomentu, Maunleu market, Taibesi and Becora, but considering the situation and if it rains then she only delivers to the closest places so that the vegetables can sell quickly.
“Sometimes I feel sad because as a woman it is not easy to do this kind of work, but because I am forced to, I have to work hard to earn money to help my parents to meet our living needs and also for my younger siblings’ school fees because if I just wait, nothing will happen, so I have to work hard.” She added.
She added that while running her vegetable sales business in Dili, sometimes she always experienced failure, but she still had the spirit to fight the obstacles she faced, so that through this small business she could earn income to meet their daily needs.
It is better explained that Adelina, originally from Dili, now lives in Marnir, Comoro. She is a trader who has the spirit and passion to continue working so that she can earn some money to help her parents pay for her younger siblings’ school fees and some more to meet her daily needs.
