Dili, February 6, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The government through the Ministry of Justice in the mandate of Government IX will try to resolve the problem of spaces in the three prisons currently standing in Becora, Gleno and Suai.
Minister of Justice, Sergio da Costa Hornai said that in the IX Constitutional Government will try to make commitments both in terms of personnel and equipment.
“In addition, this also adds sufficient insight to answer the major challenges that exist through spaces of these three prisons,” said Minister of Justice, Sergio da Costa.
He realized that the correctional institutions in the three places were more than adequate, especially considering the existence of juvenile development centers to place young prisoners there.
“Regarding the position there, we will see how we can try as I said, we must start looking at the youth center level, it must be formed so that those who are still underage can get more training to increase their insight,” he said
He explained that the government wanted to pay attention to prisoners, because it was the government’s responsibility, and those who guarded the place were tasked with educating the prisoners.
“Those who come out of this place and return to their families and society, they can show good behavior, the main goal of the juvenile correctional institution is this,” he said.
He added that the training given to these prisoners was so that they would learn about carpentry and agriculture, so that they could be independent and support themselves, and at the same time, they could become builders from the results of the prisoners’ work.
He emphasized that the government will establish more re-instruction places in Webere, to bring in prisoners who are in definitive conditions, who will have productivity that can improve their abilities through various training in the agricultural sector.
“The restructuring site, We-bere has been included in the 2025 Ministry Plan, now coordinate with the National Development Agency with the National Commission provisioning to be carried out immediately at that location.” He said.
In addition, in last week’s work we have coordinated with AND and CAN on how to see this problem. In this coordination, there are also technical matters to be done immediately.
