Dili, July 28, 2025 (Média Democrasi) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), through External Relations and Communication Office (GREK), held a press conference to report on natural disasters that occurred from July 21 to 28, 2025. During this one-week period, 13 households were registered as affected by natural disasters across six municipalities. The press conference took place at APC Hall in Caicoli, Dili.
Head of the GREK Office, Cesario da Silva Marques, stated that during the week, natural disaster incidents in the six municipalities led APC to record 2 households eligible for emergency assistance and 11 others considered affected, all of whom have now received immediate emergency support.
“Throughout this one-week period in the six municipalities, the Civil Protection Secretary of State recorded a total of 13 households affected, with emergency aid provided to 2 households, impacting 80 people and leading to the evacuation of 8 individuals,” said Cesario da Silva Marques.
He added that the 13 houses damaged included 5 by strong winds and 8 by fires, which occurred from July 21 to 28, 2025.
“The affected municipalities and locations such as, Baucau Municipality in Posto Jogu, Veru-Mata Village, Veru-Mata Aldeia on July 20, 2025, 2 houses burned (1 moderately damaged, 1 totally damaged). in Samalari Village, Samalari Aldeia on July 20, 2025, 1 house burned (total damage). In Quelicai Post, Lakuliu Village, Uale Aldeia on June 1, 2025, 1 house burned (total damage). In Venilale Post, Wailaha Village, Kaupai Aldeia on July 16, 2025, 1 house damaged by strong winds (moderate damage). In Bahamori Village, Laku-Uma Aldeia on July 18, 2025, 1 house damaged by strong winds (moderate damage). And in Baucau Vila Post, Samalari Village, Sestau Aldeia on July 20, 2025, 1 house burned (total damage).” He said
He added, Bobonaro Municipality in Cailaco Post, Meligo Village, Bere Leu Aldeia on July 19, 2025, 1 house burned (severe damage). Dili Municipality in Cristo Rei Post, Balibar Village, Lorico Aldeia on July 21, 2025, 1 house damaged by strong winds (received only emergency aid due to not meeting full criteria). Lautem Municipality in Lore Post, Lore 1 Village, Titilari Aldeia on July 19, 2025, 1 house damaged by strong winds (severe damage). Liquiça Municipality in Loes Post, Vatuboro Village, Kaibair Aldeia on July 25, 2025, 1 house burned (total damage); the victims were evacuated to neighbors’ homes.
Moreover, in RAEOA – Oecusse-Ambeno in Pante Makassar Sub-region, Naimeco Village, Noke Aldeia on July 19, 2025, 1 house burned (not eligible for full support, received only emergency aid). And Viqueque Municipality in Uatulari Post, Macadique Village, Caidualari Aldeia on July 17, 2025, 1 house damaged by strong winds (severe damage).
Cesario further explained that the victims from these 13 affected households have already received emergency support coordinated by APC in collaboration with relevant partners, including food and non-food relief. Operational Commands in each municipality continue data collection on households suffering total or partial damage as part of ongoing disaster response efforts.
