Dili, October 7, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC) through GREK held a press conference to deliver weekly data on natural disasters that occurred in the region this week. The conference was held at the APC hall, Caicoli, Dili.
According to GREK Director, Cesario da Silva Marques informed that APC recorded a total of 297 cases this week caused by climate change of various types.
“This week the Civil Protection Agency together with the Ministry of the Interior recorded cases of damage with a total of 61 cases, damage due to strong winds 51 houses, urban fires 7 cases, landslides 1 case, the number of damage that meets the criteria and does not meet the criteria as many as 297 cases, disasters that meet the criteria as many as 61 cases, 2 cases received emergency response assistance from natural disasters. The cases recorded by the APC were caused by climate change that is happening in this country.” Said the Director of GREK, Cesario da Silva
He said the disasters that occurred in municipalities such as Bobonaru, 1 fire, in Baucau 48 houses were damaged due to strong winds, in Liquiça 2 houses were damaged due to strong winds, in Manatuto 1 fire, 1 earthquake and 3 fires due to strong winds, in Viqueque 2 houses were damaged due to strong winds, including in RAEOA 3 fires, these are the disasters that occurred in the municipalities.
To be clearer, currently the APC command in the municipality area and related partners have provided basic emergency response assistance for communities who are victims of natural disasters and have also carried out recovery based on each damage to be implemented in the next steps.
