In One Week, APC Registers 38 People Affected by Natural Disasters

Dili, October 21, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Civil Protection Authority (APC), through the Head of the Section of Communication (XSK), held a press briefing on disasters that occurred between 13–20 October 2025. During this period, the situation across Timor-Leste remained normal. The conference was held at the APC Hall in Caicoli, Dili, on Monday.

Head of the Communication Section, Genoveva Fernandes Almeida, stated that APC-CNOPC recorded disaster incidents including: 8 houses damaged, 6 houses blown down by wind, 2 houses burned by fire, 6 cases under criteria classification, 2 cases receiving only emergency support, 38 people affected, and 8 people evacuated.

“Within this one-week period, disasters occurred across four municipalities such as in Baucau 3 houses damaged by strong winds; in Lautém, 1 house burned; in Liquiça 3 houses damaged by strong winds; and in Manatuto 1 community house burned. APC and relevant partners deployed in municipalities immediately registered the affected victims,” said Genoveva Fernandes Almeida.

She added details of occurrences: In Baucau Municipality, Venilale Post, Bado-ho’o Village, Uataula Hamlet on 14/10/2025 strong winds destroyed one community house (partially damaged). In Laga Post, Tequinaumata Village, Bulabai Hamlet on 17/10/2025 strong winds damaged one community house (minor damage). In Tequinaumata Village, Kaikasalari Hamlet on 20/09/2025 another community house was damaged by strong winds (partial damage).

In Lautém Municipality, Iliomar Post, Caenlio Village, Larimi Hamlet on 13/10/2025 a community house was burned (total damage). In Liquiça Municipality, Liquiça Post, Leotala Village, Lepa Hamlet on 17/10/2025 strong winds damaged one community house (minor damage).

She confirmed that: In Loes Post, Quico Village, Vatuvei Hamlet on 16/10/2025 strong winds damaged one house, receiving only emergency support. In Lisadila Village, Darulema Hamlet on 16/10/2025 strong winds damaged one house, also receiving emergency support.
Additionally, in Manatuto Municipality, Laclo Post, Uma Naruk Village, Bua Hamlet on 13/10/2025 a house was burned (total damage).

She explained that the Municipal APC Command with relevant partners have provided emergency assistance to affected families, including food and non-food items. The Municipal Operational Command of APC will continue conducting detailed assessments of damaged and lost property.
