Dili, 26 February 2026 (Média Democracia) – The Mahon Alternativu Bobonaru Oan (MABO) held a press conference asking the Government to pay attention and normalize the road from Maliana Post to Lolotoe Post, because for many years the people of Bobonaro Municipality have been suffering to access the market properly.
MABO spokesperson, Cristiano Santos, said that Bobonaro Municipality is geographically bordering Indonesia with an area of 1,380.90 Km² and a total population of 132,547, consisting of 66,815 men and 65,732 women, in its 6 administrative posts: Atabae, Balibo, Bobonaro, Cailaco, Lolotoe, and Maliana. The population lives as farmers, doing rice fields, gardens, and raising animals to sustain their family economy.
“The agricultural sector, Bobonaro Municipality is also known for its tourism sites, such as the Marobo Hot Spring, Loelaku Mountain, and others. That’s why the state needs to pay attention to developing basic infrastructure, so it can attract tourists and contribute to the national economy.” Said MABO spokesperson Cristiano Santos to journalists at Jardim 5 de Maio on 24/02/2026
The spokesperson informed that after restoration of independence 24 years ago, the condition of infrastructure like roads has been a major concern for the people of Bobonaro Municipality, especially in Bobonaro and Lolotoe posts, which greatly hinders communities from transporting their products to the market. Not only that, it also hinders the transportation process for patients from Bobonaro and Lolotoe health centers to Maliana referral hospital.
“The conditions are like this, we, Mahon Alternativu Bobonaru Oan (MABO), as a student movement representing the people of Bobonaro Municipality, demand and ask the 9th Government through the Ministry of Public Works to accelerate the rehabilitation process of the road from Maliana to Bobonaro and Lolotoe, because it’s very difficult for communities to move around, especially during the rainy season.” Said the spokesperson
The spokesperson stated that they continue to ask the Minister of Public Works (MOP) to implement good public policies to develop basic infrastructure like roads in Timor-Leste, especially in Bobonaro and Lolotoe posts, because the condition is very bad.
MABO spokesperson further explained that they held a press conference to ask relevant parties to respond immediately to these demands. If there’s no immediate response, Mahon Alternativu Bobonaru Oan will organize all social layers and communities from Bobonaro and Lolotoe posts to not trust any party that has been in power and can’t be re-elected in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
