“Maneo” Association Creates Three Programs in Eight Villages in Oe-cusse

Dili, March 7, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The ‘Maneo’ Association was established on June 14, 2014 with programs that focus on women’s issues, especially in the first division, namely prevention of gender-based violence and programs to strengthen collective action on gender equality and disaster digiproject programs.

According to the Executive Director of the ‘Maneo’ Association, Ramela da Costa said that the Maneo Association was established with three programs to take responsibility for the community especially for vulnerable people in 18 villages who face several problems at the base.

“Our activities are in 8 villages, but there are social awareness activities to prevent gender-based violence, we do this in Oe-cusse Regional in 8 villages and sub-villages, so we socialize it to the community,” said the Executive Director.

She continued, the activity that as strengthening program that realized in 5 villages in Pante Makassar and Nitibe sub-region as well as in 3 villages covering 11 sub-villages.

“This activity focuses on disaster response and resilience to climate change, this activity we received support from Oxfam through the DRP program which since the beginning we partnered with Oxfam in 2018, since then we have been working together in 2 villages, namely Suni-Ufe and Nitibe villages.” She said.

She added that other activities carried out in disaster management in the El-Nino program are more focused on climate change. These activities include water source conservation and techniques in the community, KIDS members make water reservoirs so that they can distribute clean water to the community.

“The activities we do in Suni-Ufe Village can achieve the conservation of two springs, in Naimeko Village we can conserve one spring, and now we are distributing spring water to the community, we built three reservoirs that we received support through the El-nino project.” She continued.

She emphasized that the activities that have been implemented so far include observing springs in conservation areas, but the community has paid little attention and animals have damaged the springs so that the volume of the springs has decreased and been damaged.
