Dili, August 7, 2025 (Média Democracia) – In an interview, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MAPPF) stated that two products such as, kami tunu and adubu organiku which have not yet been certified, as their hygiene status has not been identified. MAPPF, through its researchers, is currently conducting studies to identify these two products.
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry (MAPPF), Marcos Mameta da Cruz, said that the kami product is not new, but rather a Timorese entrepreneur from Baucau Municipality had previously produced kami and exported it abroad, and now intends to do so again to other countries.
“But the problem is that we have not yet certified whether this kami product is organic. In the past, he came to speak with me to find ways to produce kami again,” he told journalists at the Timor Lodge hall (05/08).
He said that the Timorese entrepreneur had requested the Government to issue a letter declaring that the kami product is organic, which he had done in the past few months. He claimed that the kami is truly organic, as no fertilizers were applied and the plants grew naturally and based on that, the ministry issued a letter for the entrepreneur to proceed with exporting the kami abroad.
“We have not yet clearly certified whether the kami is organic or not because we have yet to identify whether it is truly organic. When producing kami, the first step is to select specific tree seeds, then process them into kami,” he continued.
Further explaining the issue of kami and fertilizer, MAPPF’s researchers will carry out studies to determine whether the kami is organic and of good quality. MAPPF continues to request that researchers assess these matters based on the real situation.
