Dili, 24 January 2026 (Media Democracia) – Today the Media Democracia team officially marked an audence with the Secretary Of State For Social Communication (SEKOMS), Expedito Loro Dias Ximenes, at the SEKOMS office, this Friday.
The objective of this meeting is Media Democracia Team to introduce for the XI Contitutional Government, trought the Secretary Of State For Social Communication, their objective of establishing media to oversee the Mission and Vision of Media Democracia and also present identity of jurnalists and jurnalistic work.
Secretary of State for Social Communication (SEKOMS) Expedito Loro Dias Ximenes stated, expressing appreciation for Media Democracia’s iniciative to develop social communication which is oriented towards democratic values and social responsibility.
“The fundamental principle of jurnalism is impartiality and neutarlity, and it’s also an obligation to always respect the code of ethics of jurnalism. The media also urgently needs to raise their professionalism to get an official card form the Press Council, the institution that regulates and monitors journalistic products in Timor-Leste.” Said Secretary of Stte for Social Comunication (SEKOMS) Expedito Loro Dias Ximenes.
The Secretary of State continued, the social communication law is there for media to always respect the journalist’s code of ethics, because this code is like bible for all journalist. In addition, SEKOMS asks journalist to get a professional card from the Press Council, because it’s a regulatory and monitoring for journalistic product.
“On behalf of the government, I thank you young people for this good initiative, but nowdays world, you all know that Artifitial Intelligence (AI) is here, so you need to keep learning and fokus on reading, disscusing and constructive debate, so you can compete with artificisial intelligence.” Said Secretary of State for Social Comunication (SEKOMS).
The Secretary of State Affirms, with the presence of artifsial intelligence, journalist need to , be strong by reading a lot, writing a lot, discussing and having constructive debates but with ethics, not attacking people’s privacy and focusing on what’s real. Futher explaining regarding audence mark, the first importante point is to strengthen the relation between Media Democracia and the XI Contitutional Government to work together and to contribute to the development of democracy in Timor-Leste.
