MJDAK Declares CPLP Games Preparation in Timor-Leste Reaches 87% Completion

Dili, July 2, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture (MJDAK), Nelio Isaac Sarmento, announced that preparations for the 2025 CPLP Games in Timor-Leste have reached the final stage, with overall progress at 87%.

He stated that all ongoing preparations are progressing well, thanks to strong cooperation with various partners, and the work has now entered its final phase.

“The preparations for the CPLP Games to be held in Timor-Leste have now reached the final stage. We are currently waiting for confirmation from the participating countries’ delegations regarding their arrival. Most delegations, athletes, and officials have already submitted their names, and we are now waiting for the confirmation of their flight schedules. Some have already purchased plane tickets, while others have yet to do so, and we are still coordinating with them,” said MJDAK Minister Nelio Isaac Sarmento.

He further explained that most countries have submitted the necessary documentation, such as names and passports of each delegate, although a few are still pending. MJDAK is continuing coordination efforts to ensure everything is collected in time. For instance, Guinea-Bissau has completed all documentation and is preparing to depart for Timor. They will be the first country to arrive, expected on July 14, while other countries will follow. MJDAK remains in contact with all delegations to ensure readiness.

“In terms of internal preparations like accommodation, transportation, and game schedules, everything is ready. We are just waiting for the participants to arrive so we can proceed with the full agenda of the Games. Once everyone has arrived, we will proceed with the opening ceremony, and the games can begin. On July 8, the CPLP Games technical team will arrive in Timor to work closely with the organizing committee to finalize venues and equipment,” he added.

He also confirmed that MJDAK is coordinating with cultural organizations to prepare cultural programs such as traditional dances, food, and music that will be featured during the CPLP Games, along with logistical support services.

“There are over a hundred registered Timorese athletes who are currently in training while also undergoing health check-ups to ensure they are fit to compete. The government is committed to supporting their well-being so they can fully participate in this important event,” said Nelio Isaac Sarmento.

Reaffirming the ministry’s commitment, he noted that MJDAK has reached approximately 87% completion in logistics, documentation, and event programming for the CPLP Games. He expressed confidence that all remaining preparations will be finalized in the coming week and that the event will proceed successfully according to schedule.
