MJDAK, UNFPA, and World Vision Hold Press Conference on International Youth Day Celebration

Dili, August 8, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture (MJDAK), together with development partners such as UNFPA and World Vision, held a press conference regarding the celebration of International Youth Day, which will take place from 8 to 12 August in Timor-Leste. The conference was held at the MJDAK hall in Lecidere.

In the statement delivered by the Director General for Youth, David Tomas de Deus, he said that the dedication of this special day aims to draw the attention of the whole world and the international community, especially in Timor-Leste to focus on youth issues and involve them directly or indirectly in all processes of sustainable development.

“This year’s celebration, on 12 August 2025, carries the theme ‘Local Youth Action for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals’. The Government, through the Ministry of Youth, Arts, and Culture, is working together with its partners to organize the activities for this event,” said Director General for Youth, David Tomas de Deus.

He added that the upcoming activities will include a youth seminar on 8 August 2025, to be held at Tower Hall in Fatuhada. On 11 August, there will be a seminar for the official launch of the monograph Demographic Dividend at Hotel Timor. On 12 August, participants will march from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Youth, Arts, and Culture, followed by a quiz prepared by the organizing committee as part of the International Youth Day celebration.

He reaffirmed that the activities scheduled for these dates are supported financially by the development partners mentioned earlier, with a budget of around USD 20,000. The youth seminar will bring together youth groups from several municipalities, including Baucau, Aileu, and Bobonaro.
