MOP and CCI-TL Hold Extension Meetings with Companies in Timor-Leste

Dili, February 28, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) together with Camara Comercio Industria de Timor-Leste (CCI-TL) held a meeting and assessment of the work activities carried out by national companies at the base. The meeting was held at the Delta Nova hall, Dili.

According to MOP, Samuel Marçal that today held a meeting as an assessment of all private sectors in Timor-Leste, because the private sector is very important in partnership with the government.

“The private sector is all Timorese people that the government thinks about how to develop the private sector and national companies in Timor-Leste, that is why today we are holding a meeting to listen to their concerns that have been faced so far, so that the government can help and also see the problems of the government in order to improve the private and national sectors to develop themselves well.” Said the Minister of Public Works (MOP), Samuel Marçal

He continued, through this meeting the private and national sectors can develop themselves well, so that in the future they have good capacity to open investment and employment opportunities for the young generation in Timor-Leste.

“We are very grateful to the private and national parties, even with limited capital and capacity, they continue to try to move forward on their own. That is why earlier we heard the motivation from the Prime Minister to give them new enthusiasm to work together with the government to build this country even better.” MOP said.

He added that so far there were 33 stalled projects carried out by private and national parties, which through this meeting can convey these problems both from the company and the government, if the private party has to cancel the project, that is why it has an impact on its implementation.

“Based on the data of 33 projects that are currently stalled, previously a meeting was held with the private and national parties to provide notification that if they are not enthusiastic about working on this project, we must be magnanimous to disburse funds again for new programs, because these projects have been stalled since 2016 until now,” he said.

As conveyed by the President of CCI-TL, Jorge Manuel de Araújo Serrano, today’s meeting is a joint exploration with the Ministry of Public Works and the entire team is enthusiastic to discuss with the civil construction company of public works to understand the problems that have been faced so far.

“As we know that Timor-Leste has 80% of subsidiaries born from civil construction and public works of public companies. So, from the Minister has the aim to hold four counseling meetings, so that everyone can hear the cooperation of CCI-TL to mobilize companies in Timor-Leste to see the problems that are the root of abandoned projects.” He said.

He added that this meeting was a forum for assessing the problems that the company had been facing at the base, so that through this meeting, information could be communicated to each other so that in the future it could develop even better.

“Today’s meeting is like a surprised assessment and reflection from the Prime Minister, although in the agenda did not participate but as a Grace can attended in this meeting to provide thoughts to MOP, CCI-TL and women entrepreneurs in Timor-Leste.” Said the President of CCI-TL

Further explained that on behalf of CCI-TL, he would like to express his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works who have shown good enthusiasm and initiative, and would like to communicate that this extended meeting can be carried out well, and he believes that in the future we can work together to realize the development of Timor-Leste.
