OE-SILO COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER DOES NOT HAVE AN AMBULANCE TO SERVE EMERGENCY PATIENTS

Oe-Cusse, January 29, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Community Health Center in Oe-Silo located in Bobometo Village in Oe-Cusse lacks medical personnel and ambulances to accommodate patients.

According to the Head of Department of the Oe-Silo Health Center, Frides Elo, so far the Oe-Silo Community Health Center has used operational cars to accommodate patients who are sick or have experienced natural disasters in the hamlet or village and if the health center wants to transfer them to the Hospital in Oe-Cusse, they must contact an ambulance from SNAEM.

“Currently, the Health Center in Oe-Silo uses operational cars, there are no other cars and no ambulances. When there is a patient in critical condition at the health center, we have to contact the ambulance at SNAEM so that they can refer the patient to the referral hospital in Oe-Cusse.” He said.

He continued, so far the Oe-Silo Health Center has received more than 50 patients every day. However, for the maternal health program, sometimes it can reach 10 patients every day.

“Every day, the Oe-Silo Health Center records more than 50 patients who consult, while for the maternal health program there are only 10 patients. If they have entered the registered counter, they will receive immunization or AMC or Family planning, but depending on the counter, they will be collocated to all programs at the health center.” Said the Head of Department

As a Saben resident, Maria Delfina Oky said that if the Saben community is sick or a natural disaster occurs, it is very difficult to immediately access the Oe-Silo Health Center because of the long distance.

“For years, we who live in Saben sub-village have had a hard time going directly to the Oe-Silo Health Center. When we are seriously ill, we have to make a great effort, sometimes accompanied by several family members walking to the Health Center for about two hours before we can have a consultation,” She said.

She added that in the Oe-Silo area there is only one health center, so if the people of Saben sub-village are sick and need treatment, they have to make the effort themselves by walking for two hours before arriving at the health center.

Regarding the ambulance at the Oe-Silo Health Center, there is no ambulance yet, so far there are plans and a letter has been submitted to the Ministry of Health so that the Oe-Silo Health Center can get an ambulance that can be used for emergencies.

To explain better that in Oe-Sillo there are three Community Health Centers and one Health Center, related to human resources working to serve patients as Medical Personnel, Nurses, Pharmacists, Midwives, Laboratory and Doctors with a total of 44 people.
