Dili, July 7, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL), through the National Criminal Investigation Service Directorate (DSIKN), held a press conference regarding a homicide case that occurred on July 6, 2025. At around 11 a.m., community members reported to the Ainaro Municipal Police that a deceased body along with a motorcycle and some equipment was found in a remote hilly area. This information was confirmed via a press statement accessed by Média Democracia through PNTL General Command in Caicoli, Dili.
According to the PNTL spokesperson, Police Superintendent João Belo dos Reis, once the information was received, the Ainaro Municipal Police immediately intervened and identified the victim as a 23-year-old female named Peregrina da Conceição, also known as Amina, who was found dead at the scene.
“The Police Intelligence Service (SIP), the Criminal Investigation Service, together with the PNTL Municipal Command in Ainaro and the PNTL Municipal Command in Liquiçá, promptly carried out tracking efforts based on the received information. Eventually, at around 9:00 p.m. on the night of July 6, the suspect, with the initials M.D., was apprehended in Dom Aleixo area, Dili Municipality,” stated PNTL spokesperson João Belo dos Reis.
He further informed the public that the suspect is now in police custody and is being held in the detention cell of PNTL Dom Aleixo Station in Comoro while awaiting further legal procedures.
“As for the chronological details of the case, I am unable to disclose more at this stage, as the case is under judicial secrecy and currently under investigation,” added the current Director of the National Criminal Investigation Service (DSIKN).
The Director also stated that the victim’s body has already been evacuated to Dili and is currently at the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) awaiting autopsy procedures.
To be clear, the autopsy process will determine whether the cause of death was due to physical assault or another violent act. The investigation will continue, and any individuals suspected to be involved in the case are being monitored. The victim is originally from Asumanu village, Liquiçá Municipality, and the suspect will be held in detention for 72 hours before being presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP).
