Dili, 11 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – The National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) will track down a woman who gave birth to a baby at the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) and abandoned it for three weeks.
On March 9th, the Commander of the Cristu-Rei Squadron received a contract from the Guido Valadares National Hospital to go and see a newborn baby whose mother had abandoned it, at HNGV.
“I myself received a phone call from the HNGV Security and also from the ICU, saying the baby was there, so I went to straight to HNGV and saw the incident that went viral on social media that a woman gave birth at HNGV and abandoned her baby, she disappeared.” said Cristu-Rei Squadron Commander, Chief Inspector Paulino de Carvalho to reporters at his office in Becora, Tuesday (10/03/2026).
The Chief Inspector said that following the incident, members of the National Police of Timor-Leste are tracking downn the whereabouts of the baby’s mother.
“We are looking for the woman who gave birth at HNGV and abandoned her baby for three weeks, but this morning we got some results, the family of the woman who gave birth is known to us, but the woman who abandoned the baby still unknown, but I’m sure tommorow we’ll get results.” He informed.
Therefore, PNTL Cristu-Rei Squadron will make an effort to track down the person who abandoned her child to find her whereabouts as such an act is considered a crime.
“From an investigative perspective, this act is a crime, because leaving someone you’ve carried for 9 months, then giving birth and abandoning them, what responsibility do we have as parents to our children, with situations like this, as the Commander of Cristu-Rei Squadron, I will continue to make efforts to track down her whereabouts wherever she is, because we already know and waiting to take action.” He affirmed
He undelined, that such cases will be processed through investigation and the presented to the Public Ministry, that’s why the Police will make an effort to track down the mother who abandoned her baby at HNGV.
