Dili, December 25, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Christmas message from the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, was delivered to the beloved people of Timor-Leste as the Christmas season arrives in the country.
In his message, President José Ramos-Horta stated that Christmas is a sacred time as a moment when people around the world reflect on the powerful message of the humble birth in Bethlehem: a message of light in darkness, peace instead of confrontation, and love for one another.
“I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt wishes to you all. May this season bring you peace, joy, and lasting hope. I would also like to reflect briefly on our own history and collective spirit. We are a nation that has walked for a long time through darkness, guided by the light of faith and hope that remains strong toward a better tomorrow,” said President of the Republic José Ramos-Horta.
The President emphasized that throughout 2025, Timor-Leste has continued its journey as one people, facing challenges with resilience and celebrating progress in the spirit of unity.
“As your President, my greatest Christmas prayer is for national unity and lasting peace to become our strongest foundation. Let us reach out to those who feel alone, help those in need, and welcome everyone with open hearts, this is the true spirit of Christmas,” the President added.
The President further stated that to the children of Timor-Leste, whose joy fills the nation’s homes, he hopes their smiles will continue to be the voice of the nation’s promise. “You are our greatest gift and our future,” he said. To the elders who carry wisdom through the nation’s long journey, he expressed honor and gratitude with love and respect. To every Timorese family, he wished blessings filled with togetherness and sincere gratitude.
During this joyful season, the President invited all to pray especially for those who carry heavy burdens, the sick, those who struggle, and those who grieve the loss of loved ones, hoping they find comfort in the support of their communities and renewed strength in the hope this season represents.
As the New Year approaches, the President called on the people to carry forward the light of Christmas, allowing it to guide actions toward greater justice, deeper compassion, and sustainable development for all. Together, he urged, let us continue to build a Timor-Leste where every citizen can live with dignity and peace.
The message concluded with wishes for a Christmas filled with the deep peace of Christ and a New Year 2026 filled with health, prosperity, and shared success. “May God bless each and every one of you. May God bless Timor-Leste. Merry Christmas.”
