Dili, May 8, 2025 (Média Democracia) – At the invitation of the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, the President of the Senate and former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, is making an official visit to Dili from May 7 to May 9, 2025.
President Ramos-Horta warmly welcomed Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN at Nicolau Lobato International Airport. This marks his second visit to Timor-Leste, following his first official visit in 2016 during his term as Prime Minister of Cambodia.
“With great pleasure, I welcome Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, President of the Senate and former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to Timor-Leste on this historic visit. His presence in Timor-Leste not only symbolizes the friendship between our two nations but also opens a new chapter in people-to-people relations,” affirmed President Ramos-Horta.
This historic visit marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and Cambodia, following the establishment of the Cambodian Embassy in Dili and the presentation of credentials by Ambassador CHUN Sovannarith on April 29, 2025.
On 8 May, President Ramos-Horta will hold a bilateral meeting with Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, accompanied by high-level delegations from both nations, at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.
Samdech Techo HUN SEN will deliver a speech in the National Parliament and hold bilateral discussions with the President of the National Parliament, H.E. Maria Fernanda Lay, and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.
“In the evening of 8 May, President Ramos-Horta will host an official banquet in honor of the official visit of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN,” stated President Ramos-Horta.
On 9 May, President Ramos-Horta will bestow the highest national honor, the Order of Timor-Leste, upon Samdech Techo HUN SEN during the 2025 Presidential Lecture Series I, which will take place at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace. Following the ceremony, Samdech Techo HUN SEN will deliver a keynote address titled “Lessons from HUN SEN: From Genocide and Poverty to Freedom and Prosperity.”
The visit of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN strongly underscores the deep friendship between Timor-Leste and Cambodia and reflects the shared commitment of both nations to cooperation and regional development within the ASEAN framework.
