Liquiça, December 9, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Press Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, in collaboration with relevant ministries of the IX Constitutional Government and the Municipality of Liquiça, organized a seminar titled “National Unity Ensures the Sustainability of the State and the Nation.” The event is part of a reflective cycle commemorating the 50th anniversary of the invasion. This information was accessed by Média Democracia through the PR page on Monday.
According to the President, the two-day program held in Vatuboro Village, Loes, Liquiça Municipality, took place at a site of deep historical significance. From 1975 to 1979, the Northern Front of the resistance in Loes consisted of four key companies: Bubu Api in Vatuboro, Tata Bei in Gugleur, Manus in Guiço, Magarapo in Lisadilla, and Ramhana in Tatabei. The Ramhana Company notably included members from Manatuto, Baucau, Lospalos, and Viqueque.
“On the first day, 6 December, activities focused on community engagement and commemoration. The program included a tree-planting ceremony, a Holy Mass to honor the National Heroes, and traditional sports competitions. The day concluded with a musical performance celebrating Timorese culture and collective memory,” stated President José Ramos-Horta.
The President added that 7 December was dedicated to deeper reflection on the nation’s past and future. President Ramos-Horta presided over the opening session, emphasizing the enduring legacy of the struggle.
“Our unity was built through shared sacrifice. It is this foundation that guarantees the sustainability of our State and the prosperous future of our Nation,” affirmed the President of the Republic.
The Municipal Council of National Liberation Combatants (CMCLN) of Liquiça presented former commanders and fighters from the Bubu Api, Tata-Bei, Manus, and Lisadilla companies. The event also highlighted community solidarity through the distribution of Christmas parcels to 150 families from three villages in Loes, Liquiça. In the evening, a historical documentary from 1975 by the Timorese Resistance Archive and Museum (AMRT) was screened, followed by a concert.
This reflective event combined solemn remembrance with cultural activities to strengthen community bonds and reinforce the national spirit of resilience. The commemoration of the 50th anniversary stands as both an homage to the past and a renewed commitment to a united future.
