S.E.I Commemorates International Women’s Day

Dili, 19 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – Secretary of State for Equality (SEI) together with patners express apreciation to Alola Foundation for commemoration International women’s Day.

According to Secretary of State for Equality (SEI), Elvina Sousa Carvalho said, as a member of the Govenrment working on gender equality, it is to guarantee advocacy.

“The work for Secretary of State for Equality is to coordinate and guarantee advocacy for the promotion of equality and inclusion of challenges faced by women, and guarantee the implementation of national and international policies, and gender commitments thar our nation Timor-Leste adheres to nationally, which is the annual plan based on gender. The Secretary of State for Equality’s national action plan also looks at people with disabilities, thus ensuring and protecting.” Said Secretary of State for Equality (SEI), Elvina Sousa Carvalho

Secretary of State for Equality informs many women are still victims of sexual abuse, psychological, and economic, thus sending a message to fellow women and girls to work hard to ensure women’s roles guarantee better conditions for women and girls.

“Many women are still victims of physical abuse, Psycological, and economic abuse violance that they face at home, thus sending a message to all soiciety to work hard to ensure all women’s roles, and guarantee better conditions for women girls.” Informs Secretary of State for Equality SEI

She added, asking society the progress achieved so far isn’t just from women alone, not just from the Secretary of State for Equality, not just from one organization, all this progress is also due to everyone’s efforts, collective efforts from civil society, government, national and international partners.

Secretary of State for Equality stresses futher, the work to prevent sexual harassment is ongoing, and this work isn’t just the State Secretary of Equality alone, but its coordination with international partners and national partners with the Ministry of Higher Education. Through this joint work, almost all universities in Timor are about to establish an MOU to declare zero tolerance for sexual abuse in higher education in Timor.
