SANTA CRUZ MASSACRE Show the World that TL wants Independence

Dili, November 12, 2024 (Media Democracia) – In commemoration of the 33rd anniversary of the Santa Cruz Massacre, Lorico Adventure (Load) took a motorbike trip around Timor Leste to visit 12 Youth Cemeteries and also help survivors scattered across Timor-Leste.

In addition, there was also a group of youths “Hadomi Natureza” who voluntarily walked from Lautem to Dili in order to commemorate the 19th National Youth Day.

A representative of the Lorico Adventure group with the code name Loriku Mean said that through the Santa Cruz area, they could show the world about the youth of Timor-Leste who wanted to gain independence from Indonesia.

“We all know from this grave, from this place we can show the world that at that time the youth had given themselves, given their minds, given everything they had to show the world that Timor-Leste wanted to be independent, Timor-Leste wanted to be free from Indonesian colonialism,” said the representative of Load.

He said that the new generation wanted to continue what the youth of the past had done in 1991.

“We want to continue what our brothers and sisters did in 1991, so that all the things they have given, the values they have contributed to liberate this country are not just destroyed,” he said.

Through this contribution, the Lorico Adventure group not only visited the graves of the deceased youth of the November 12, 1991 resistance to bring flowers as a sign that Lorico Adventure will not forget the deceased youth of the resistance and also their spirit will not forget to be responsible to the youth who are now in Timor-Leste to contribute to the development of this country.

During their travels around the region, the group also travels to the surviving survivors in the country to take responsibility and observe their situation.

“Some people pass away and leave behind wives and children, so we want to meet and talk to them, like hugging them once a year is okay, what’s important is that we continue to visit them so that they don’t feel alone but we are all together. That way, they can feel how valuable the contribution we give is.” He said.

On this occasion, the representative of the Natureza Youth Group, Aida Ratna de Deus, continued that her group walked from Lautem to Dili to commemorate the Santa Cruz Massacre and National Youth Day.

“The purpose of this fun walk is firstly to commemorate the 19th National Youth Day, secondly to pay tribute to the heroes of national liberation through a footpath to provide an understanding to the younger generation that the history of liberation began from mountains, rivers, forests and villages.” Aida continued.

She said that the walk from Lautem consisted of 15 members of the Hadomi Natureza youth group.

“Here, there are 10 of us who left from Lautem to Dili and then to Baucau, our team of five supported us from Baucau to Dili. So, there are 15 of us here and there are still some who are still behind,” She said.

Meanwhile, the problems faced by this group while walking from Lautem to Dili were heat and fatigue, but this did not become an obstacle to continuing their journey, instead they continued walking to follow in the footsteps of the heroes of the past.

Meanwhile, the Hadomi Natureza youth are composed of youth from colleges and high schools such as ESHANA UNTL, ESHANA UNITAL, ESHANA UNPAZ, ESHANA Paulo IV and also the Hadomi Natureza youth themselves.
