SRAFP HOLDS REFLORESTATION IN THE SPECIAL REGION OF RAEOA

Oe-Cusse, January 28, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Forestry Department is engaged in the field of how to create projects for the environment, especially trees, based on this, the Forestry Department has held activities as reforestation in the Special Region of Oe-Cusse Ambeno.

According to the Regional Secretary of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishermen (SRAFP) Filomena Sila, related to this, socialization should be carried out to the community in rural areas so as not to damage the environment. When people want to cut down trees to be used as agricultural land to meet daily needs, they must replant trees on the land.

“We also have baby bottles prepared from the agricultural service, just waiting for each community group who wants to do reforestation to plant trees on the old land, they must also submit an order to the agricultural service so they can offer plants to the community. Because so far we have carried out reforestation activities in 2024 such as planting trees in church environments, schools and also fulfilling orders from the community.” Said the Regional Secretary of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishermen, Filomena Sila

She continued, in 2024 there were many partners orders in one area, these orders were from churches, schools, and communities, to meet these orders to provide trees, but based on this order which partners submit to agriculture direction.

“The trees are distributed to the community who submit orders, we also distribute trees to the community who bring them to be planted in vulnerable areas such as landslides, planted in old land, in water pipes so that springs grow in the summer so that the water does not dry up at that time, so that the community can continue to use water. As we know that in Oe-Cusse many people in the summer face many clean water problems so we have to fulfill the orders submitted by the community here when they need it.” She said.

She emphasized that the number of trees that have been distributed to the Bobometu sub-village community is more than a thousand trees to carry out reforestation in areas that have always faced risks due to climate change.

“The type of tree that has been offered to the community to be planted in areas prone to climate change is the rust sterculia tree, because this tree can maintain water sources including to strengthen the soil, so that natural disasters do not occur in the rainy season,” She said.

She informed that there are still many trees that have not been existed in agriculture direction based on orders submitted by the community, sometimes the community asks for trees of other types for which the agricultural sector does not yet have trees so they have to provide trees that have been prepared by the agricultural sector because the trees that are prepared always do not damage the land.

She further explained that Bobometu village has so far had trees, but two sub-villages from Saben and Hoi-neno have not provided plants because the community has not submitted an order to the agricultural sector. So, we need to work together with the head of the forestry department to see this problem in order to conduct socialization to the community in the area, so that they can submit an order, we can transfer trees to them to reforestation in places at risk of natural disasters.
