Liquiça, January 6, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Laurinda Gonçalves, 35 years old from Bazartete, Liquiça. Her daily activity is selling fish to meet her daily needs.
In an interview with Laurinda, she admitted that she was very sad because even though it was a holiday, her merchandise did not sell as well as on normal days. On normal days, fish sells better than on holidays.
“I have been selling fish with my husband for a long time, but on this holiday I feel very sad because the fish are not selling compared to normal days. On normal days, I always get a good income from selling fish, I sell five fish for $1.00 so in a day I can get $50.00 to $100.00, on holidays nine fish for $1.00, even I have made it cheaper but still not selling in a day I only get $15.00 or $20.00, these fish we do not buy from other people but my husband catches them directly because he is a fisherman and he catches fish every day to earn money to meet our family’s needs. The money I get is used to pay for my children’s school fees and some to meet our daily needs.” She said
She explained that if she did not help her husband, how would she be responsible for her family and children, especially her children’s school fees.
“I always help my husband, at 4 am my husband wakes up and goes straight to the sea to catch fish without breakfast, and at 10.30 he just comes home from the sea and I prepare lunch for him and I continue by selling fish on the side of the road. I also prepare my children’s school supplies. I have five children consisting of two girls and three boys, and three of them are already in kindergarten.” She added.
She added that living in a family means helping each other in any work and should not burden one person or couple to earn a living, but there should be an effort to help each other in any situation and in any work. Keep trying and be diligent in earning a living.
