Dili, 21 March 2026 (Média Democracia) – The Ministry of Defense this year prioritizes establishing the northern military base in Hamlet Tata, Ailelo Village, Hatolia Administrative Post, Ermera municipality.
Defense Minister, Rear Admiral Donaciano do Rosário da Costa Gomes (Pedro Klamar Fuik) said, the military base will construct a building with residences for the military and the project is expected to launch this year.
“The project we are going to do in Ermera, to be a base for the Northern Battalion of the land component.” said Defense Minister Rear Admiral Pedro Klamar Fuik at his office in Fatuhada on Tuesday (17/03/026).
Defense Minister Rear Admiral continued, the construction of the military base is the responsibility of the Ministry of Planning and Strategic Investment (MPIE) through the Secretary of Large Projects, and the design for the construction of the military base was concluded two years ago. This year, the first stone-laying ceremony for the construction will be held. Furthermore, the project is expected to be launched in 2026 for the military barracks and the military base.
Klamar Fuik informs, in the development plan of the Ministry of Defense, in the next five years following the ministerial directive issued by the MD, in the defense area, it’s fundamental to develop infrastructure.
“As you know, the government has been in office for about two years, two years ago we conceptualized and thought about everything, what we want is infrastructure for our forces, because two years ago we completed the design for military infrastructure. After completing the design for our infrastructure, this year we implement it.” informs Defense Minister Rear Admiral Pedro Klamar Fuik.
The official guarantees this year will hold the first stone-laying ceremony for the construction of the military base.
”This year I believe we start, the MPIE Ministry and Large Projects will launch, then we will construct for the next one or two years.” states Pedro Klamar Fuik.
Meanwhile, the infrastructure that the Ministry of Defense is focusing on implementing this year is for a military base at the company level. Thus, when company members are deployed to the area, they are responsible for living together with their families in the military barracks.
