Dili, June 12, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Timorese boxer Faviano Monteiro, 23 years old, from Lautém and representing “Lospalos Boxing Club” (LBC), defeated Indonesian boxer Ahmad Sari to win the BWS Championship Volume 2 in the 52 kg category. The match took place on May 30 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Faviano returned to Timor-Leste on Tuesday this week.
Faviano Monteiro expressed that his victory is not only a personal achievement but a proud moment for the entire Timorese nation.
“I sincerely thank God Almighty, and also all my fellow Timorese who gave me strong support. This championship title is not just for me, but for all Timorese,” said Faviano Monteiro.
He stated that this victory is just the beginning, and he is determined to continue working hard in the future to bring even greater achievements for Timor-Leste. He emphasized the importance of perseverance and support from others to gain more experience.
“I ask all Timorese to keep supporting me so that I can continue to bring pride to Timor-Leste. This win is not the end, but a step toward the future. Especially for young people who want to become boxers, they must dedicate themselves to training so they can compete internationally,” he added.
He also took the opportunity to call on all young Timorese to continue supporting him at any time, because the success he achieved is not final but a stepping stone for other youths to progress further in the boxing world and elevate Timor-Leste globally.
At the same event, the coach of Lospalos Boxing Club expressed deep gratitude to all Timorese who provided strong support for Faviano through prayers and spiritual encouragement. This, he said, enabled the athlete to ultimately become the champion at the BWS Championship Volume 2 in Indonesia.
“As Faviano’s coach, I want to thank our beloved country, especially the youth and families who supported us through prayers and moral encouragement, which brought us this victory. Our goal is not just this title, but we will continue working hard to bring more titles to Timor-Leste in the future,” said the Lospalos Boxing Club coach.
He added that Faviano’s success came after intense preparation, dedication, and hard training accompanied by prayers and spiritual support from the sacred land of Timor-Leste. The coach also took the opportunity to urge the government to invest in the development of boxing.
According to the Lospalos Boxing Club team, Faviano and his team returned to Timor-Leste on Tuesday aboard a Citilink flight. At the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Comoro, Dili, he was warmly welcomed by the boxing team and his Timorese family.
