Dili, February 3, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Chinese Alumni Association (TLCAA) today invited students from three universities in Dili to attend an information sharing session on opportunities to study in China through scholarships provided by the Chinese government and Chinese universities.
The three universities consist of DIT (Dili Institute of Technology), IPDC (Instituto Professional de Canossa) and ISC (Instituto Superior Cristal) with the presence of more than 100 people of students and lecturer representatives.
TLCAA President Dircio Francisco X. F. Ximenes said that this information sharing session was held to motivate high school graduates and undergraduates to know the steps needed to pursue scholarship opportunities.
“Here we explain what they have to do, starting from supporting documents, certain diplomas and degrees, and good English language skills,” said TLCAA President, Dircio Francisco.
He emphasized that TLCAA wants Timorese students to participate in this scholarship and not be afraid to try because the most important thing is that scholarship participants can speak English. In addition, TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) documents depend on the university they are applying to, but some do not require all of them.
On the other hand, according to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of the Dili Institute of Technology, Aderita dos Santos expressed her gratitude to TLCAA for providing an opportunity for students through sharing information session and hopes that this can continue every year because many college graduates want to continue their education to a higher level.
“We are very grateful for the presence of TLCAA and I hope that there are other parties from other countries who are present to provide socialization like this. This is also an opportunity for our students who are in the final stages to continue their studies.” She said.
As a student at UNTL (Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e) majoring in Tourism, Carlos Piedade said that the training he attended this time was organized by Chinese student alumni with the aim of providing an explanation on how to apply for a scholarship to China.
“This training is good because it provides clear information about scholarships that many students are interested in to study abroad, especially how to apply for scholarships to China, with this we as students have the initiative to get information and want to increase our insight so that we can get the opportunity to study in China.” He said.
He emphasized that the information they shared was very good and was a challenge for them to continue to try hard to be able to study in China.
“I also want to study in China because there are many experiences that have been shared before, and my target is to study in China, therefore the training they share was very good.” He added.
He explained that he wanted to compete for a scholarship to study in China.
“I also really want to apply, if I’m lucky I can pass and if not I can join next year. Because by studying in China I can learn a lot about the developing Chinese system, so it’s very challenging for me to get this scholarship and study abroad, so I can apply the system in our country.” He said.
To explain further, TLCAA was officially established on March 27, 2022 with more than 200 members and received financial support from the Embassy of the Republic of China in Timor-Leste. This organization is a forum for former students to share experiences, knowledge, and skills they gained while studying in China.
