Dili, October 14, 2024 (Média Democracia) – UNFPA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health through the National Directorate of Maternal and Infant Health held a three-day orientation to facilitate health workers. The orientation was held at the Novo Turismo hall, Bidau Lecidere, Dili.
In an interview with the UNFPA assistant representative in Timor-Leste, Mrs. Domingas Bernardo said that today’s activity is very important because it holds a three-day orientation opening for health workers from 13 municipalities to become facilitators of Antanatal and Posnatal work, during the three days the speaker is Dr. José Antonio who will provide orientation for health workers regarding the two guidelines that have been mentioned.
“The purpose of this activity is to open a three-day training orientation for health workers so that they can learn how to make plans so that they can provide orientation to health workers who do not get this opportunity. Another goal is how to improve better performance by focusing more on Antanatal and Posnatal so that it can improve the quality of work in health center and health post so that it can reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.” Said UNFPA representative in Timor-Leste, Mrs. Domingas Bernardo
She continued, Antanatal and Posnatal Services are basic services which are routine services provided in health centers which are more focused on maternal and infant health.
“Orientation for health workers based on facilitators from MS and UNFPA and financial support from the Japanese government, I think is very important because through this large financial support it can help us to achieve and improve the quality of work in the present and the future.” She added.
She added that the financial support from the Japanese Government was for a three-year project with a total of 7.5 million, in March last year an agreement was signed with the Japanese Government to carry out integrated work in order to strengthen maternal and infant health service efforts, this activity has Antanatal and Posnatal packages, in both of these project packages, improvements to health facilities and infrastructure are also carried out so that they can function properly and increase the personal capacity of health workers in health centers and also increase public knowledge so that they can utilize the facilities properly.
Deputy Head of Mission of the Japanese Embassy in Timor-Leste, Mrs. Sakai Yuki Counsellor added, the important point of the Japanese government is that Timor Leste can have sustainable development and they themselves must expand the projects or programs.
“What is more important is that we want to make this project a success, then we will see the impact in which in the municipalities covered, the implementation of the program in 13 municipalities that have come today and participated in this orientation.” Deputy Head of Mission of the Japanese Embassy in Timor-Leste, Mrs. Sakai Yuki Counsellor added
On the other hand, Head of the Department of Maternal and Infant Health, Ministry of Health, Mrs. Lucia Lay said, she is very grateful to the Japanese government for providing maximum financial support to the Ministry of Health, especially in the National Directorate of Maternal and Infant Health which also received support from UNFPA for activities held here, would also like to convey that UNFPA does not only provide support for today’s activities but also for internal activities such as other integrated work.
Furthermore, today’s activities were also attended by the Government of Japan, UNFPA and also the Ministry of Health, this activity was held in collaboration of UNFPA with the Government of Japan and also the Ministry of Health through the National Directorate of Maternal and Infant Health in order to facilitate the orientation of health workers for 13 municipalities for three days at the Novo Turismo Hall, Bidau Lecidere, Dili.
