12 VILLAGES IN ATSABE HAVE “TARA BANDU” (PROHIBITION)

Ermera, December 31, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Atsabe City Government in collaboration with the church has conducted socialization of the Tara Bandu Law in 12 villages in Atsabe, so that it can reduce or minimize cultural activities in Atsabe.

In an interview with the Atsabe City Government, Manuel Olieveira said that currently the government and the church have thought about collaborating with villages such as village heads to collaborate with the church and the Atsabe police commander (PNTL) to conduct socialization about the “Tara Bandu” law in order to minimize or reduce customary activities that are always carried out by the community in their respective villages.

“The cooperation between the church management and the local government and also the Atsabe Police commander (PNTL of Atsabe) always conducts supervision in the villages and sub-villages to provide socialization to the community so that they know that there will be socialization about the law of “tara bandu” to the community, especially to parents who carry out traditional customs and from the socialization carried out by the team, some of the community already understand and obey the existing law of “tara bandu” and can carry out traditional customs if the community wants to hold traditional customs, it must be based on the provisions or laws in force.” He said.

He continued from the law of “tara bandu” which the community obeys and during carrying out customary activities but must follow the existing provisions, for example not asking for an expensive dowry from other parties so that they can try their best to participate in the customary activities, from the law of “tara bandu” it is hoped that in the future there will be no waste more money to improve the standard of living to be better.

“So far, the community has complied with the existing provisions, if they carry out traditional activities for a week they must comply and so too with this “tara bandu” which prohibits traditional dances and the community must comply, it is hoped that this “tara bandu” will be one of the steps to reduce budget waste in Atsabe,” he added.

He added that this “tara bandu” will continue in villages and sub-villages that do not yet have this prohibition and also some people who do not obey this law will receive sanctions from the church, because this law was made after the authorities held a meeting with the community and they agreed, that is why this law exists in villages or ub-villages.
