Dili, February 3, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI) visited the office of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL) to discuss the work and collaboration between the Ministry and CCI-TL to see the private sector in the country in order to contribute to national development.
CCI-TL representative president Hergui Luina Fernandes Alves said that it was a great pleasure for the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry because as a government partner, they could talk about cooperation in the private sector’s contribution to national development.
“There are many issues and relevant things that we need to discuss regarding the interests of the private sector and also the development of the country and think early to agree to establish a permanent dialogue so that we can discuss more clearly, not just talk but together see the solution so that we can improve our business environment in Timor-Leste.” Said CCI-TL Vice President, Hergui Luina
He said that during this visit, they discussed the plan on realization of the Dili International Expo where the Ministry of Trade and Industry plans to collaborate with the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the preparation and implementation of the expo.
“Other plans that the Ministry is thinking of doing from the national level to the city level is to involve CCI from each municipality and also all the things that have been obstacles for the private sector including those that have an impact on commercial activities in this country and also the business environment that together we need to improve to create a good environment for doing business activities in Timor-Leste,” he said.
He also emphasized that the plan conveyed by the Ministry that in June and July can be implemented, but a team will be formed to see the readiness, prepare a good plan, so that it can involve private sectors from within the national and also investors who will participate.
On that occasion, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira continued, this visit is very important because the Ministry of Trade and Industry to the CCI-TL is to discuss the work that will be carried out in order to see economic developments.
“We need synergy in terms of important work in order to build our economy into an important pillar so that we can say that a good country, justice is when our economy is running well, because as we know that the role of the private sector is very important, so the private sector must be a proactive player.” He added.
Because the private sector in this case as a striker who must score many goals so that the economy in our country can be in accordance with the expectations that we want, because we are aware of the role between the government and the private sector as strategic partners and need to mutually strengthen, strengthen and develop the private sector.
He emphasized that this visit was to provide great enthusiasm and motivation through collaboration on a number of activities that could be implemented.
“We consider the promotional aspect of our products very important, because we realize that in our country there are still many who import, this shows that the trade balance is very difficult which with data publish at the National Statistics Institute, therefore we need a way and mechanism on how to carry out good promotions,” he added.
In addition, we have a good identification of the potential of our products with high economic value to be exported to the market, so we hope to be able to run with the policy of substituting imported products. Therefore, this Dili International Tride Expo can be an event for investment promotion, business promotion, and promotion of domestic products that require good collaboration and strategy.
