Oe-Cusse, February 6, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Modesta Maria Salo, 24 years old, now lives in Samaro in the Special Region of Oecusse Ambeno RAEOA, living as a trader who has to walk along the roadside every day to sell spinach.
According to Modesta Maria Salo, for years she lived as a trader running small businesses such as selling spinach to earn money to meet daily needs and buy books and pencils for her children.
“The spinach that I brought for this small business is the result of my own planting in a pond since 2022 with a fairly large pond size. Because when I dug the pond, I thought it was only for eating, but over time this spinach began to grow a lot. So, I sold some of it so I could get money to buy other necessities and meet the needs of the children,” She said.
She continued, the spinach he sells is bought by people every day for 5 USD – 6 USD, but that also depends on luck, because many people also sell spinach and other vegetables on the side of the road to meet their daily needs.
“Although many people sell on the roadside, I still try hard to compete with others, even though I have to carry a heavy wok for two or three hours just to meet our living needs. Even with a mediocre income, which is 5-6 USD per day, because the spinach I sell costs 0.10 cents per small bunch and 0.25 cents per large bunch, but I am sure that with the money from this sale I can meet my family’s needs, because if I just stay at home, who will give me money to meet my daily needs.” She added.
She added that even though she gets a small income every day from her small business, it is not a problem, the important thing is that she can get money to meet her daily needs and her children’s school fees, because if she just stays at home she will not get any money.
To further explain that Modesta as a trader who earns income through various processes but she still tries hard by running a small business such as selling spinach on the side of the road just to earn income to meet daily needs. Although her daily income is not much but it can meet their living needs.
