APC Actualize Natural Disaster Situation in One Week

Dili, March 24, 2025 (Média Democracia) – Civil Protection Authority (APC) through the Cabinet External Relations and Communications (GREK) team reported weekly data on natural disasters that occurred in Timor-Leste during the week. The conference was held at the APC hall, Caicoli, Dili.

According to GREK Chairman Nelson Nunes Orleans, APC recorded 159 disaster cases this week, due to various types of climate change causes.

“During this week in Timor-Leste there were natural disasters, so APC recorded houses that were damaged, such as strong winds destroying 21 houses and 40 houses that met the criteria, 7 houses burned down, landslides destroying 36 houses, total emergency assistance 55.” said GREK Chairman, Nelson Nunes

He continued, the number of residents affected was 437 people, and 160 people were evacuated, because according to the Authority’s records, this happened due to climate change in this country.

“Disasters that occurred in the municipality areas such as floods in Ainaru resulted in 3 houses being submerged and 1 house being affected by landslides, in Bobonaru 1 house was affected by landslides, in Covalima 2 houses were affected by landslides, in Dili there was a flood and 1 house was affected, in Ermera strong winds resulted in 10 houses being affected and 1 house being submerged in floods, in Lautem there was a fire in 1 house, in Manufahi strong winds resulted in 1 house being affected and 2 houses being burned, in Viqueque strong winds resulted in 1 house being affected, including the Special Region of Oecusse, Ambeno RAEOA strong winds resulted in 9 houses being affected, floods 26 houses, landslides resulted in 1 house being affected and 4 houses being burned.” He said

He added that currently the APC in the municipality along with related partners are providing emergency response assistance to families affected by natural disasters in the form of food and non-food assistance.

Explaining better that the APC City Operational Command continues to collect data on damaged and lost items, in order to verify based on the type of disaster, because the number of disasters that occurred this week amounted to 159 cases.
