Dili, October 30, 2026 [Média Democracia] – The National Directorate of Road Safety (DNSR), in the Ministry of Interior, appeals to the entire community to use public roads according to traffic rules and regulations in force, to prevent traffic accidents, especially during the period of increased movement of people to the municipalities.
National Director of Road Safety, Elder Soares, affirmed that the socialization activity was held during a month, with the objective of providing information and awareness to the community throughout the territory about the importance of using public roads responsibly and according to traffic rules.
“The objective of this activity is to continue to remind the community throughout the territory, especially since the holidays are approaching, which will increase the movement of people to many municipalities.
Elder Soares said DNSR also appealed specifically to drivers, especially bus drivers, to comply with the rules on passenger limits, and not carry passengers beyond the capacity of the vehicle, because this practice can increase the risk of traffic accidents.
“We continue to pay attention to buses, because often there are some buses that carry passengers beyond capacity, until some passengers stand at the door. Therefore, we need to inform drivers that passengers must follow the capacity of the bus, to avoid accidents.
In the socialization activity that DNSR together with the Traffic Police conducted in the area of Elemloi, Tasi-Tolu Terminal and Becora Terminal, the Traffic Police managed to arrest three motorcycles that violated traffic rules. The authorities ensure that these cases will follow the process regulated in the Road Code.
Meanwhile, DNSR will continue to conduct socialization activities in municipalities and administrative posts throughout the territory of Timor-Leste, to increase public awareness about road safety and contribute to the reduction of traffic accidents.
