Dili, July 8, 2025 (Média Democracia) – The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MJDAK), through the General Coordinator for the Community Games of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RTTL.EP (Radio and Television of Timor-Leste) with the objective of live streaming the upcoming CPLP Games scheduled to take place next week.
The General Coordinator of the CPLP Community Games and Acting Secretary of State for Arts and Culture, Jorge Soares Cristovão, explained that the government chose RTTL.EP because it is a state-funded institution. This agreement involves a modest budget, not a large one but aims to support some of the necessary facilities that RTTL currently lacks. In addition, international partners will also provide technical support.
“A total of $50,000 has been allocated to RTTL to support the live broadcast of the games. We all know RTTL already has experience managing media centers and distributing outputs to both national and international media. This was clearly demonstrated during the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis, when RTTL successfully managed a high-quality live stream. This is why we chose them, we decided on one media institution to act as the host, and RTTL was our choice,” said Secretary of State Jorge Soares Cristovão during a press briefing at CCD on Monday (07/07).
He clarified that the decision was not made due to a lack of capacity from other media outlets, but rather because RTTL is a government partner, making it a logical choice.
“RTTL and the organizing committee have a dedicated sub-section to handle communication and media publicity. They will coordinate and plan how the camera placements will be arranged in the stadium, as well as where journalists will be stationed. The whole technical team is already on it,” he added.
He emphasized that although the MoU was formally signed today, technical work has already begun in recent days, including equipment testing.
“We’re aiming to maximize every available resource, even though our conditions and facilities are not on par with major international sporting events like the World Cup. At the very least, we can ensure that the public is able to follow the games, both citizens within the country and Timorese abroad, as well as international audiences who are interested. RTTL will make that possible,” stressed Jorge Soares Cristovão.
According to RTTL President Elizeu Isaac Fernandes, nearly 20 broadcast outputs are expected, which will be distributed to various international media, ensuring the event is widely covered through RTTL’s network.
Speaking at the same event, Elizeu Isaac Fernandes, President of the public broadcasting company RTTL, stated that RTTL has again earned the trust of the state through the CPLP Games organizing committee to manage the live transmission of the event in the coming week.
“We want everyone to know that RTTL is 100% ready. Our entire team and the committee formed by RTTL are already coordinating with all relevant parties. RTTL is also receiving assistance from international organizations such as ABC Id, which shows that in terms of broadcasting, RTTL is prepared to deliver the live transmission of all activities and sports modalities during the CPLP event,” he said.
He added that RTTL will also assist other media outlets in accessing the broadcast outputs so that they can distribute information to their respective audiences.
“I believe international media will also actively participate in this event. RTTL will facilitate broadcast outputs to them as well, ensuring the CPLP Games held in our country gain international attention through RTTL’s channels,” he emphasized.
The RTTL President also confirmed that the broadcaster has already conducted several trial runs and dry-runs of some sports match currently taking place in Timor-Leste, under international technical supervision. Therefore, he stated with confidence that RTTL is fully prepared and simply awaiting the start of the games to demonstrate its professionalism and fulfill the trust placed in it by the government.
